All eyes where on Peter Thiel, co-founder of PayPal and the first outside investor in Facebook. This is what he is best known for, but Thiel has a track record that few come close to.

His involvement outside the Valley and investing in companies extends to changing education as we know it, to transportation in the space industry.

Thiel´s talk was focused on progress of technology but also globalization. And how he views them as two different things. He wants the focus on technological progress in developing countries.

Although there has been progress in computer technology, there are other areas that are not progressing, he says. One is transportation, as Thiel pointed out that some forms of movement are developing more slowly today than 15 years ago. In reference to that he pointed out that the cost of fuel is going up and there is still no good enough alternative for our dependency on fossil fuels.

Peter Thiel believes that the technology that will cause change is the one that´s not only online but connects to the physical world. He mentioned the Google automatic car as an example.

Many in the audience had questions about Thiel´s alternative beliefs; about how education is working today as many know he is not a supporter of the traditional education system.

"People need to know why they are learning what they are learning" Thiel stated.

Thiel left the venue to go on to give a public lecture at the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich before continuing to the World Economic Forum in Davos.
